Perinatal Mood Disorders:
Components of Care Certificate Training

Wednesday, November 02, 2022, 8:30 AM EDT
$0.00 Birdie Gunyon Meyer, RN, MA, PMH-C | Dvora Entin, LCSW, PMH-C | Marianela Rodriguez-Reynaldo, PhD, PMH-C

Untreated perinatal mental health disorders are associated with high-risk pregnancy and harmful outcomes threatening the well-being of the parent as well as the baby. Pregnant persons often do not receive adequate mental health care and mental health practitioners receive little or no training. Pregnancy and Postpartum Mental Health Disorders are among the most common complication related to childbearing and yet receives little attention in professional mental health education. There are known evidence-based tools for screening, assessment, and treatment, and informed resources available for support and treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and yet the majority of providers and families are not aware of the resources. Increasing knowledge and skills for mental health and healthcare providers can increase access to support and treatment, and decrease the isolation and mental health distress experienced by pregnant, postpartum, and post-loss individuals.
