Q. What browser is recommended to view webinars?

A. We recommend using  Firefox  or  Chrome. Safari for Windows and Internet Explorer are not supported.

Q. The video does not start. How do I start the Stream?

A. Click the play button (the triangle) that is in the middle of the video player

Q. I completed the webinar but cannot find my certificate

A. Click on the link at the bottom of the video player where it says “Get your certificate”. The certificates can also be found in the workshops and certificates pages on your account

Q. Will my regulatory bodies accept the certificate provided for continued education credits

A. The certificates provided are accepted by most regulatory bodies.  Please see the list of provided certificates on the bottom of each webinar page.  Make sure that you are aware of your states and disciplines regulations to ensure that you chose the correct certificate.  If you need assistance with this, Please feel free to email.

Q. I can not be present at the time of the live presentation.  Will I be able to access it at a later time?

A. If you are not able to view the webinar when it streams live, you may use the link to watch it at your convenience. All webinar recordings become available on the website about 24 hours after they stream live.

Q. How much time do I have to view the webinar?

A. You are allotted enough time to watch the webinar one time plus enough time to review most of the webinar a second time.  If for some reason you run out of time, do not worry, just reach out to us on the contact page.

Q. I purchased the webinar but am now being asked to pay again. How can I access the webinar?

A. You will need to login in order to access the webinar, you can do so by clicking on the “login to access it now” button. You can also access your webinars from your  account  page by selecting the  Workshops  tab.

Even a highly seasoned couples therapist can feel out of sync when encountering unfamiliar cultural patterns in a marriage. Similarly, the stresses of cultural differences between partners in an intimate relationship can exacerbate the tension within the union.  

This training will help participants understand the facets that define culture and how culture can be used as a strength within a relationship. Through interactive discussion and activities participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of culture, and its role in the therapeutic alliance, in couples counseling. You will gain an understanding of how cultural views can cause a barrier to treatment and even deter clients from coming to therapy. The Facilitators will also use case studies of couples of various backgrounds and will look at effective methods, Gottman and others, for working with minority couples. 

This training will improve participant’s insight of how cultural biases exist and how to identify this through comprehensive assessment of the couple, and ongoing self-assessment. Best practices and research will be discussed to conclude the workshop.

About the Presenter

Mrs. Cope-Ward is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with many years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Mrs. Cope-Ward graduated with her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Howard University in 2001. She has completed the Level 3 training for couples counseling through the Gottman Institute She is also an approved Gottman Educator for The Seven Principles workshop and an approved Prepare-Enrich facilitator. Helping couples make sound healthy choices in their relationships and navigate through conflict with ease is her mission. Ms. Trotman is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She provides individual, group, and couples counseling. She completed her Bachelor’s in Psychology at Howard University and her Master’s in Clinical Community Counseling at Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Trotman has worked in several clinical settings in her career of 20+ years, but she has always dreamed of working with couples since childhood. She provides counseling around communication, intimacy, increasing emotional connection, and sexual health. Ms. Trotman has completed the level 3 training for couples counseling with the Gottman Institute. She is also an approved Gottman Educator for the Seven Principles Workshop and an approved Prepare-Enrich facilitator. She is currently completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology, therefore, she has some additional training to make sure your sexual needs are met in your relationship. Dr. Kia James is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She provides individual and couples counseling services. She graduated from Bowie State University with a BA in Psychology, and she continued her schooling, eventually gaining her Masters and Doctorate from Argosy University, also known as, The American School of Professional Psychology. Dr. James has completed the level 3 training for couples counseling with the Gottman institute. She is also an approved Gottman Educator for the Seven Principles Workshop. Dr. James  has a passion to help couples strengthen their relationship and build healthy happy families.
