Savvy Supervision! Basic Administrative Supervision

Supervisors spend at least 80% of their time performing administrative tasks. This is an introductory course for new supervisors or for those contemplating becoming a supervisor in an organizational setting. In the first half of the session there will be a brief overview of the definition of social work supervision and its uniqueness compared to other types of supervision. In addition building blocks that are essential to being a savvy successful supervisor will be discussed.  The second half of the session will focus on one of the essential building blocks -- feeling comfortable having difficult conversations with supervisees and avoiding conversation pitfalls.  Be prepared for a lively session with case studies and breakout rooms for group discussion. (the course is for social workers, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and others in the behavioral health field.

About the Presenter

Rebecca Ashery PhD, LCSW-C, Leader-Manager Coach, is a former captain in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps serving over 25 years in various leadership and management positions. She directed two regions of the Federally Qualified Health Center Program (FQHC) with a combined budget of $500 million. She served as the Deputy Director of the Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Initiative breaking down agency silos and using a coordinated team approach. As Director of the HIV/AIDS Training program she directed the development of 15 courses training more than 20,000 substance abuse workers and administrators. She was instrumental in establishing the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention staff college and mentoring program. She currently has a psychotherapy and a coaching practice.
