This course equips psychosexual therapists with a comprehensive understanding of the diagnostic criteria for the most common male sexual issues. Participants will examine ethical considerations in defining sexual problems, review the major nosologies of sexual dysfunction, and learn to distinguish among distress, disease, and dysfunction presentations. Core content includes prevalence data, clinical definitions, and diagnostic criteria for disorders of desire, arousal, orgasm, and sexual pain. Designed to strengthen both clinical knowledge and ethical practice, this training prepares professionals to address male sexual concerns with accuracy, sensitivity, and confidence.

About the Presenter

Michael Sytsma, PhD, LPC, CST, C-PST™, CPCS has over 35 years of clinical experience in marriage and sex therapy and is the founder of Building Intimate Marriages, Inc. and co-founder of Sexual Wholeness, Inc.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will analyze professional ethical codes and critical issues of privilege, power, and bias in diagnosing male sexual problems, and differentiate between distress, disease, and dysfunction to avoid over-pathologizing normal variation and ensure accurate, ethical diagnosis.
  2. Participants will accurately diagnose male sexual problems across desire, arousal, orgasm, and sexual pain domains, while comparing and contrasting DSM, ICD, ICSM, and other nosologies to recognize how differing frameworks inform diagnostic decisions.
  3. Participants will recognize the prevalence of common male sexual problems and develop awareness of atypical or less frequent sexual concerns, equipping them to accurately diagnose male sexual concerns across both typical and uncommon presentations.
