About the Presenter

Christina Marsack-Topolewski, PhD, LMSW is an associate professor of Social Work at Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Marsack-Topolewski received her PhD in Social Work with a dual title in Gerontology from Wayne State University. She has worked with individuals with various intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 20 years and has worked as a special educator, consultant, and clinical social worker. Her research focuses on individuals with disabilities, their caregivers, caregiver burden and quality of life, advance care planning, service delivery, and service utilization. Dr. Marsack-Topolewski has over 70 publications in national and international journals and encyclopedias, mainly focusing on individuals with IDDs, caregiving, and aging. Dr. Marsack-Topolewski has been the lead on multiple grant-funded programs tailoring services to individuals with IDDs, older adults, and chronic illnesses. In 2019, she was appointed to the board of directors to the National Task Group on Intellectual Disability and Dementia Practices.

30 minutes: Statistics regarding chronic pain and pain management

30 minutes: Relevance of chronic pain and co-occurring conditions for children and adolescents

10 minutes: Break

30 minutes: Experiences and challenges of children and adolescents undergoing pain

35 minutes: Supports, strategies, and resources for children and adolescents experiencing pain and chronic pain; support for family caregivers

15minutes: Recap; Q & A
