Wired for Wisdom: Integrating AI Thoughtfully into the Healing Relationship
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into therapeutic practice offers clinicians innovative tools to augment, not replace, the therapeutic alliance. This presentation explores how AI can support therapists in delivering personalized, effective care through applications such as AI-generated music (e.g., Suno), personalized poetry, behavioral tracking, custom recordings, guided meditations, affirmations, and therapeutic apps. Grounded in cognitive-behavioral theory and neuroscience, AI tools can assist in monitoring client behaviors, identifying patterns, and providing real-time feedback, thereby facilitating neuroplasticity and reinforcing positive behavioral changes. For instance, AI-driven platforms can generate personalized soundscapes that promote relaxation and emotional regulation, aligning with findings that music therapy can significantly impact neural pathways associated with stress and anxiety (CassetteAI, 2024).
Moreover, AI applications can streamline administrative tasks, such as progress note documentation and treatment planning, allowing therapists to allocate more time to direct client engagement. Tools like AutoNotes have demonstrated efficacy in reducing clinician burnout by automating routine documentation processes (AutoNotes, 2025). Ethical considerations remain paramount in the deployment of AI in therapy. Ensuring client confidentiality, obtaining informed consent, and maintaining transparency about AI's role in treatment are critical. Therapists must also be vigilant about potential biases in AI algorithms and strive to use culturally competent and inclusive tools.
This session will provide clinicians with practical strategies for integrating AI into their practice responsibly. Attendees will gain insights into selecting appropriate AI tools, customizing interventions to meet individual client needs, and upholding ethical standards in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Pathology and Partnership: When Personality Disorders Meet Couples Counseling
This presentation begins by defining personality disorders (PDs) as enduring, maladaptive patterns of behavior and inner experience that impair relationships, with a focus on Cluster B disorders like Narcissistic (NPD) and Borderline (BPD) Personality Disorders due to their prevalence in couples counseling. We’ll explore how PDs manifest as an "Emotional Ponzi Scheme House of Cards," where fragile defenses (e.g., grandiosity in NPD, splitting in BPD) create volatile dynamics—such as idealization-devaluation cycles or boundary violations—that destabilize partnerships. Drawing from sources like Landucci & Foley (2014), we’ll highlight common pairings (e.g., NPD+BPD, NPD+OCPD) and their unique challenges, including emotional volatility, poor insight, and countertransference risks for therapists. The introduction will emphasize the importance of recognizing these patterns early to tailor interventions effectively.
The second part outlines evidence-based interventions for couples with PDs, integrating eclectic strategies from Livesley’s (2005) phased approach—safety, containment, regulation, exploration, and integration—with specific techniques like boundary setting (Hafeez), DBT skills (Fruzzetti & Fruzzetti, 2003), and Gottman’s relational methods. We’ll discuss how therapists can serve as a “mirroring self-object” (Landucci & Foley) to validate injuries while fostering empathy and collaboration, illustrated through fictional case studies: “Laura and David” (NPD+BPD) navigating rage and abandonment fears, and “Alice and Eugene” (NPD+OCPD) balancing drama and control. The presentation concludes with practical tips—establishing a holding environment, managing countertransference, and setting common goals—supported by sources like Lachkar (1998), to equip clinicians with tools to stabilize these complex relationships.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Risk Factors in Women and Intervention Strategies for Therapists
Therapists are often the first point of contact for female survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), yet this topic is frequently under-addressed in clinical education. Many clinicians never receive formal training on IPV, even though clients are experiencing it every day, often without naming it directly. It may be difficult to support female clients suffering from IPV in silence, without any training in recognizing their quiet distress. This course provides practical, nonjudgmental guidance to support your work with female clients who may not disclose abuse openly and will raise your level of readiness to address IPV in your practice.
Participants will explore how perpetrators often follow a discernible grooming process, and how certain risk factors can increase a client's vulnerability to sexual assault, particularly in cases where the perpetrator is someone known to them. The course also examines personality traits common among perpetrators and the importance of recognizing early warning signs. What makes this course different is by addressing the probability of future IPV victimization of your female clients, before it occurs. Moreover, participants will learn how to raise the topic of safe and healthy relationships with female clients, even when this is not female clients' presenting problem.
