Overview of the workshop: DSM-5 & ICD-11 frameworks for female sexual dysfunctions.
Icebreaker activity: “Diagnostic Bingo” — learners are given terms (e.g., low desire, pain, distress) and must identify whether they’re diagnostic features.
(30 min) — Segment 1: Female Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder
Teaching content:
DSM-5 diagnostic criteria (duration, frequency, distress requirement).
ICD-11 conceptualisation and differences.
Guided discussion: What challenges do clinicians face distinguishing between low desire as normal variation vs. pathological?
Mini-case vignette: Learners identify whether criteria are met.
(30 min) — Segment 2: Female Orgasmic Disorder
Teaching content:
Key criteria (marked delay, infrequency, absence, or reduced intensity).
Exclusion factors (relationship distress, inadequate stimulation, cultural context).
Activity: In pairs, learners role-play therapist–supervisee conversations about assessing orgasm difficulties.

(30 min) — Segment 3: Genito-Pelvic Pain/Penetration Disorder (GPPPD)
Teaching content:
DSM-5 combined vaginismus & dyspareunia into GPPPD.
Criteria: difficulties with penetration, marked pain, fear/anxiety, tensing/tightening of pelvic floor muscles.
Activity: Small groups map which symptoms belong under “physical/medical,” “psychological,” or “relational” categories.
(30 min) — Segment 4: Sexual Dysfunction — Differential Diagnosis & Co-Morbidities
Teaching content:
Distinguishing sexual dysfunction from depression, anxiety, trauma, or relationship problems.
Medical factors (endocrine, hormonal, gynaecological conditions).
Guided discussion: When should therapists refer on for medical investigation?
(25 min) — Segment 5: Applying Criteria in Practice
Case study carousel:
Learners rotate through short written vignettes of patients presenting with different issues.
For each, they must:
Identify if DSM-5/ICD-11 criteria are met.
List differential diagnoses.
Consider patient distress and context.
Group debrief.
